Natasha Dupeyrón: People Can Step Over Women, Their Intelligence, And Their Feelings, Just Because Of Their Looks

‘Señorita 89’ from the Oscar-winning producers Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín is all set to stream on Lionsgate Play. Here is what actresses Natasha Dupeyrón and Ilse Salas have to say about the scandalous thriller.

Most people understand how beauty pageants work, but there’s more to it than what just meets the eye. The Spanish thriller ‘Señorita 89’ aims to take a closer look at a fictional beauty pageant with sinister individuals in charge of rearing a group of young women all vying for the same crown. The show goes behind the scenes into the dark underbelly of the Miss Mexico Beauty Pageant in 1989 and reflects the unseen and ugly side of beauty.

Playing a strong and disruptive character in the show, Natasha Dupeyrón shares how the show brings forth the unheard point of view of women, "I think it’s a theme that has not been seen. It's still popular and people still celebrate it and no one talks about it from the Miss's point of view. Certain people can step over women, their intelligence, and their feelings just because of their looks. All in the name of perfection."

Sharing her take on how the show deals with a sensitive theme, the popular Mexican actress, Ilse Salas, adds, "Some things have changed yet others remain the same. But what's interesting to see is the path we have chosen. And I can assure you that if these women are beautiful, it's because they have fought very hard to be. And I love how ‘Señorita 89’ is incisive as it cuts through sensible themes that hurt. It's an exciting story, where we all question ourselves."

The scandalous thriller is set to start streaming on Lionsgate Play on December 9.

Jacqueline Fernandez’s Lawyer Reacts After Nora Fatehi Sues Her: ‘Will Respond Legally’

Nora Fatehi and Jacqueline Fernandez are amidst the ED probe in conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar's money laundering case.

Over the past couple of months, actresses Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi have been questioned multiple times in a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate against alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. On Monday, Nora even filed a defamation case against Jacqueline, and claimed that the latter “made defamatory imputations” against her for “malicious reasons” with an intent to “destroy her career to further her own interests”.

Reportedly, Jacqueline has given a written statement to the appellate tribunal, PMLA, alleging that she was “falsely implicated by ED even as other celebs such as Nora Fatehi who had received gifts from Chandrashekhar had been made witnesses”. To counter that, Nora pleaded, “Jacqueline Fernandes sought to criminally defame the complainant to destroy her career to further her own interests, since they are both working in the same industry and have similar backgrounds, amongst other reasons.”

Now amid the ongoing fiasco, Jacqueline’s lawyer Prashant Patil has claimed that the actress has never spoken ill about Nora on any public or private platform, including during the Enforcement Directorate proceedings. The lawyer was further quoted by Times of India as saying that they are yet to get a defamation suit copy from Nora and when they do, they will respond to it legally.

In the Sukesh Chandrasekhar case, both Jacqueline and Nora are said to have received expensive gifts and favors, and Prashant further stated that Jacqueline has, “utmost respect for Nora. There definitely has been some sort of miscommunication”. He further added that quoting anybody’s reply, filed before an adjudicating authority, is a matter of the pure judicial proceeding.

Meanwhile, TOI also quoted an industry source as saying, "It’s shocking that Nora has filed a formation on media as well as Jacqueline. Saying something to competent authorities during an ongoing investigation is not defamation. It’s not as if Jacqueline has given media quotes and held a press conference on inonhe matter. She has only co-operated in the investigation and is fighting her case. Since it is an ongoing investigation, Jacqueline has maintained a very dignified media silence on the issue.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Nora last featured in a special song, titled ‘Jihad Nasha’ in Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘An Action Hero’. Jacqueline on the other hand was last seen in ‘Ram Setu’ alongside Akshay Kumar. She has Rohit Shetty’s ‘Cirkus’ in the lineup, where she stars alongside Ranveer Singh.
